Drone operators from the 63rd Separate Mechanised Brigade of Ukraine continue to destroy occupiers, their hangars. Recently, Ukraine’s 63rd Mechanized Brigade drone operators destroyed hangar with Russian equipment in Zaporizhzhia region. You can see how drones penetrate the building to find a target, after which they successfully hit it. Presumably, all the equipment burned down as a result of drone hits and a large-scale fire. The high effectiveness of group attacks by drones has been recognized worldwide, given the experience of their use in the Russian-Ukrainian war.
Drones account for about 60% of Ukraine’s front-line strikes, according to the country’s commander-in-chief. With shortages of artillery shells and other weaponry, Ukraine has leaned heavily on drones. The inexpensive systems have been highly effective at damaging and destroying equipment worth millions.
Cheap drones offer an asymmetric advantage and provide the Ukrainian military with combat power it couldn’t generate with humans and crewed assets alone. But its drone force is only as strong as its pilots are capable, making drone training essential. Ukraine has emerged as a leader in modern drone warfare, with its experiences in battle not only strengthening its own forces but also supporting Western militaries bracing for future fights.
In a recent interview with SkyNews, Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, outlined his current strategy against Russia, which focuses on wearing down the Russian army as much as possible. In a war of attrition, this means Ukraine must reduce Russian personnel and equipment while preserving its own. Ukraine faces a significant disadvantage in such a conflict because of Russia’s larger population and more robust defense industry. Over the past three years, Ukraine has worked to offset this disadvantage through its extensive use of drones. While Ukraine has been continually improving drone technology, frontline units have also been developing new tactics for employing these systems to further strain Russian resources. Recent reports from Ukrainian news outlets and social media have highlighted several of these innovative drone tactics now being introduced by Ukrainian troops. While drones have typically been used for reconnaissance, surveillance, or precision strikes, Ukrainian soldiers are now employing them for psychological operations and battlefield deception.
