The level of stagnation in the Russian air defense system in Crimea is so widespread that the occupiers no longer detect drone movements. This was stated on Radio NV by Vladislav Seleznev, a military expert and former press secretary for the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Speaking about the attacks on Crimea, he emphasized that "the level of stagnation of the Russian air defense system in Crimea and Sevastopol is so widespread that they literally no longer detect the movement of those very drones." "Looking at posts in some Russian Z-publics, I understand that the Russians are simply short of tactical-grade missiles for the Pantsir-S1 anti-aircraft gun systems," Seleznev said. The expert noted that the Russians felt overly confident when they occupied Crimea and brought in an incredible number of air defense and missile defense systems.
"But it turns out that after more than four years of full-scale war, even this enormous force is clearly insufficient for the enemy to provide permanent air cover over Sevastopol and Crimea," Seleznev said. According to him, the assertion that whoever controls Crimea has absolute dominance in the Black Sea has already lost its relevance. "Furthermore, the enemy is becoming increasingly convinced that Crimea has become a kind of Chernobaevka 2.0 for them," the former press secretary emphasized. Yes, says Seleznev, Crimea is vulnerable. As for the Kerch Bridge, he believes it’s only a matter of time before it becomes dysfunctional. Under these circumstances, Ukrainian drones have the ability to more easily strike the Crimean bridge. Earlier, spokesperson for the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Dmytro Pletenchuk, stated that Russian forces continue to use all available means to guard the Crimean Bridge, periodically introducing traffic restrictions and conducting vehicle inspections. "They use all available resources they have for its protection and defense, starting with the maritime guard of the FSB and ending with the National Guard of Russia," Pletenchuk said. According to him, Russian forces regularly impose temporary restrictions in case of threats and tighten vehicle control. "They periodically block the bridge… thoroughly inspect vehicles entering it, and various restrictions are introduced from time to time," the spokesperson noted. He added that there are currently no grounds to say that Russia has changed its approach to protecting the facility. Since the moment it was built, the Crimean bridge has been one of Ukraine’s main targets in the temporarily occupied Crimea. Even before the full-scale invasion began, russia had concentrated significant air defense assets there. Nevertheless, gaps in the bridge’s defenses allowed the Security Service of Ukraine to carry out three successful strikes. The first attack occurred in October 2022 and involved a truck loaded with explosives. In July 2023, it was struck with Sea Baby naval drones. The last incident occurred in early June 2025. This time, an underwater marine drone was likely used to strike the target. Air defenses, which have been built up over many years, are clearly ineffective against such weapons.
