Ukrainian units have driven Russian forces out of the village of Minkivka in eastern Donetsk region, a strategically important location along the route connecting Bakhmut and Sloviansk. Russians have suffered heavy casualties in the operation. According to a statement from the Skelia Regiment, the operation was carried out rapidly and with strong coordination, allowing their troops to regain control of the settlement. Military officials say the Russian push in this area has been stopped for now, with conditions along the highway brought under control. During the mission, Ukrainian forces were able to relieve encircled allied positions and establish additional surveillance points. The fighting is said to have resulted in heavy Russian casualties, with more than 40 soldiers reportedly killed. Earlier in January, Russian sources had claimed that Minkivka was already under their control. However, Ukrainian military representatives rejected those assertions, insisting the village had remained in Ukrainian hands throughout. Officials from the Eastern Group of Forces also warned that such claims are part of a broader pattern of misinformation aimed at portraying non-existent battlefield gains. They noted that similar reports about Russian advances in other locations have frequently proven to be inaccurate. Situation remains tense in eastern Donetsk region, with Russian forces maintaining pressure through persistent assaults near key cities such as Bakhmut and Avdiivka, attempting to gain ground despite mounting losses. Ukrainian troops report that while attacks remain frequent, many have been contained, with defensive lines largely holding and some localized counterattacks pushing Russian units back from tactically important positions. Meanwhile, the General Staff of Ukrainian Armed Forces reported 191 combat engagements with Russian troops on the frontline on Tuesday. According to General Staff, Russia launched one missile strike using 30 missiles, as well as 69 airstrikes, dropping 218 guided aerial bombs. In addition, Russian forces deployed 9,879 kamikaze drones and carried out 4,049 shelling attacks, including 111 using multiple launch rocket systems.
