Ukraine’s defense forces have thwarted a Russian motorized assault near the settlement of Hryshyne in embattled Pokrovsk in eastern Donetsk region inflicting heavy losses to Russians. During the attack, Russian forces used 13 motorcycles, nine of which were destroyed before they reached the settlement, while the remaining four were taken out inside Hryshyne. Confirmed Russian losses in the operation amount to 17 personnel. The operation to repel the Russian assault was launched by Ukrainian troops from the 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade, alongside the Skelia unit of the 25th Separate Assault Regiment and nearby units. Video footage of the operation features destruction of Russian troops and motorcycles in multiple strikes in the frontline. This marked the first Russian attempt in this area in the past three months. According to Ukraine’s 7th Rapid Response Corps of the Air Assault Forces, the last similar failed attack occurred in early December 2025, when Russian troops tried to advance using all-terrain vehicles. At the same time, Russian forces launched a coordinated assault near Myrnohrad city in Pokrovsk using two MT-LB amphibious armored vehicles, but this effort also failed, with both vehicles destroyed and their crews killed, according to the Corps. Due to mounting loss of armoured equipment, Russia is increasingly relying on improvised vehicles such as civilian cars, vans, buggies, all-terrain vehicles, and motorcycles to move troops and supplies closer to the front. Motorcycles in particular have appeared more frequently in assault roles, especially in open terrain where speed and a smaller profile can help reduce exposure to drones and artillery. These vehicles are cheaper, easier to replace, and require less logistical support than armored platforms, but they offer little to no protection, making troops highly vulnerable once detected. The tactics used by the Russian army in the four-year-war largely rely on “meat assaults,” referring to repeated infantry attacks carried out with high casualty rates
