US Marine Corps Orders Scorpion Light Mobile Mortars

The US Marine Corps has signed a contract to purchase 81 mm Scorpion Light mobile mortars based on MRZR Alpha.

EDR Magazine reported that Global Military Products was awarded a $4.9 million contract.

The Scorpion Light is mounted on a Polaris Inc. MRZR Alpha 6×6 armored vehicle, transforming it into a mobile mortar system designed to support infantry.

It is claimed that the platform can be deployed, fire eight shots, and change position in less than two minutes.

The system is equipped with an advanced digital fire control system that provides rapid aiming and re-aiming with minimal crew involvement.

Thanks to the special design of the base plate, the mortar can be installed or removed on virtually any surface.

The increased load capacity of the vehicle allows the crew to carry up to 48 mines along with the weapon system.

The system is certified for airborne deployment and is compatible with Boeing CH-47 Chinook helicopters, making it convenient for expeditionary operations.

The modular design allows the system to be integrated into various platforms, from the Mercedes-Benz G-Class to the Polaris MRZR Alpha 4×4 and 6×6 all-terrain vehicles.

The modern battlefield, dominated by drones, leaves virtually no time for lengthy deployment.

Therefore, many developments are now focused on systems that require only a few minutes from deployment to fire damage.

In 2024, Ukrainian Defense Forces also received mobile self-propelled 120 mm Alakran mortars based on the URO VAMTAC armored vehicle.
