Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has sent a signal to the Kremlin about the country’s readiness to repel potential Russian aggression. The Azerbaijani leader said his country is prepared for any unexpected threats and is actively building up its military power to protect its security.
These words were spoken against the backdrop of growing tensions in relations between Baku and Moscow, as well as threats from Russian propaganda to start a “new SVO” in the South Caucasus, writes The Moscow Times . Aliyev stated the need to be ready for war at any moment, since today’s realities are such that it is impossible to predict tomorrow. “Whoever decides to strike at Azerbaijan will regret it ,” he noted. The head of state also added that the republic’s army is actively strengthening: Azerbaijan has already strengthened its positions in the Caspian Sea and other strategically important areas, and the number of special forces has increased. The country’s arsenal now includes the most modern drones, artillery systems, and new combat aircraft are expected to be delivered. Aliyev said that Azerbaijan has always stood for peace, but will always be ready to defend its land. In response to threats from Russian propagandists, he recalled that his country has not seized foreign lands or carried out ethnic cleansing, and added that Baku has strong allies.
Recently, Russian propaganda has increased the flow of hostile statements against Azerbaijan. In particular, the mouthpiece of Kremlin propaganda Vladimir Solovyov began talking about the possibility of Russia conducting a "SVO" in the South Caucasus due to the fact that NATO bases may appear in this region as a result of cooperation between Baku and Ankara. Propagandist Yakov Kedmi also threatened Azerbaijan with war for this reason . He stated that Baku was showing "excessive independence" and "flirting" with the West.
