WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — The Metropolitan Police Deapartment (MPD) said it was looking for the people responsible for three shootings that took place in two areas of the city Saturday night and Sunday morning.
People died in two of the shootings.
MPD posted on the X platform at 12:38 a.m. Sunday that police were investigating a shooting in the 100 block of T St. NE. The shooting actually took place around 11 p.m. Saturday.
Officers went to the location and found a woman shot, unconscious, and not breathing. DC Fire and EMS was not able to help her, and she died there. MPD said a short time later, a man showed up at the hospital with a gunshot wound. He was conscious and breathing. Detectives determined he had been hurt in the shooting on T Street.
MPD said it recevied a report of a shooting in the 5000 block of Banks Pl. NE. around 12:55 a.m. Sunday. When officers got to the scene, they saw evidence of a shooting, but they could not find anyone who had been hit by gunfire. A little while after that, police found a man who’d been shot inside a car near the intersection of New York Avenue and Bladensburg Road NE. Medics took him to the hospital. He was conscious and breathing, and MPD expected him to survive.
Around 1:20 a.m. Sunday, Metropolitan Police Department officers received word of a shooting in the 200 block of M St. SW. They found a man who had been hit by gunfire. Members of DC Fire and EMS arrived, but they could not save him.
The shootings added to what already was a violent Fourth of July Weekend in the District.
Prior to Sunday morning, there were four shootings, including one in which a woman died and another that seriously injured a 3-year-old girl.
