3 firefighters, resident injured in Mansfield home explosion

MANSFIELD, Ohio (WJW) – First responders are on the scene of an explosion in Mansfield.

Reports of an explosion first came in around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Crews responded to the 900 block of Becky Drive.

The FOX 8 I-Team learned the occupant of the home was seriously injured. He reportedly suffered burns on over 30% of his body.

A secondary explosion injured three firefighters as first responders arrived. One firefighter is in serious condition, according to the I-Team.

There is no word on what caused the explosion.

Columbis Gas responded to the scene and sent FOX 8 a statement.

This morning, Columbia responded to a reported explosion along Becky Drive in Mansfield. Upon arrival, crews connected with emergency responders to help make the situation safe. We are able to confirm that the cause of the event was not natural gas-related. We will continue to support local authorities throughout the duration of the event and ongoing investigation. Our thoughts and prayers are with those impacted by this tragic situation.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the state fire marshals are investigating.
