CHICAGO — At least seven people were injured overnight after a gunman opened fire on a crowd of people on the city’s Southwest Side.
According to Chicago police, the shooting unfolded in the 4800 block of South Justine Street, in the Back of the Yards.
Officers were first called to the scene just after 11 p.m. following a report of multiple people shot.
A preliminary investigation indicates that the victims were gathered in the area when two unknown male offenders approached on foot before one of them pulled out a gun and opened fire into the crowd.
In total, police said seven people were hit by gunfire.
The victims ranged in age from 27 to 42 and five of them were hospitalized in serious condition, while two others were listed in critical condition.
Currently, it is unclear what led to the shooting and officers say no arrests have been made.
An investigation into the incident is now underway.
