(FOX40.COM) — The Modesto Police Department is investigating a fatal hit-and-run in Modesto on Sunday morning.

According to MPD, officers responded to reports of a pedestrian being down in the roadway near Yosemite Boulevard and Severin Avenue at around 1:30 a.m. When police arrived at the scene, they found the unresponsive victim.
CPR was initiated, and the victim was transported to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, MPD said.
MPD stated that a preliminary investigation showed that the pedestrian was crossing the road when she was struck by a Toyota traveling westbound on Yosemite Boulevard.
Police have identified the driver of the Toyota as Eloy Diaz, 27, of Modesto, and he was found shortly after the crash, officials said.
MPD stated that Diaz is being charged with felony hit-and-run and DUI.
