SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – An investigation is underway after a deputy-involved shooting was reported Thursday night in Spartanburg County.
Around 11 p.m., a deputy with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office was en route to an unrelated call when they observed a person openly carrying a knife in the area of Reidville Road and Nazareth Church Road.
According to the agency, the deputy made contact with the individual, and a shooting occurred.
The suspect was shot and taken to a nearby hospital, where they remain for treatment for their injuries.
Their identity has not been released at this time.
The deputy was not injured in the shooting. The sheriff’s office told 7NEWS that the deputy involved will be placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard protocol.
The SC Law Enforcement Division was requested to investigate the shooting.
