At least 5 hospitalized in Cleveland apartment fire; building partially collapsed

CLEVELAND (WJW) – Cleveland firefighters are responding to a large fire in the city on Monday afternoon.

Crews are actively working to put out the flames at an apartment complex in the 7000 block of Garden Valley Avenue.

At least five people were taken to MetroHealth, a hospital spokesperson said.

Dispatchers received the call around 4:15 p.m.

One of the units in the complex has partially collapsed due to the fire.

Residents told FOX 8 that they heard an explosion that “sounded like a bomb went off.”

The Cleveland Division of Police announced that E. 79th Street to E. 70th Street from Kinsman to Bessemer is closed to traffic at this time. Drivers should avoid the area.
