(FOX40.COM) — A man accused of trying to murder a San Joaquin County probation officer after he lit him on fire was arrested Thursday afternoon.

Around 2:20 p.m. on Thursday, the Stockton Police Department responded to the area of South San Joaquin Street and East Lafayette Street to assist San Joaquin County Probation officers who were in a struggle with a man in possession of a gas can.
According to SPD, the suspect ignited the fuel, which caused significant burns to one of the probation officers. The probation officer was taken to a local hospital for treatment of significant but non-life-threatening burns.
The suspect, identified by police as Adam Lopez, 39, was also taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. After treatment, he was booked into the San Joaquin County jail and faces attempted murder and arson charges.
