Body of Kansas City man found after weekend drowning at Wilson Lake

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The body of a 43-year-old Kansas City man has been recovered after he reportedly drowned at Wilson Lake in Russell County, Kansas, over the weekend.

According to the Russell County Sheriff’s Office, just after noon on Saturday, deputies were called to Lucas Swim Beach at Wilson Lake on reports of a possible drowning.

The Russell County Sheriff’s Office, along with Russell County EMS, the Lucas Fire Department, the Kansas Highway Patrol, and several other agencies, responded to the scene and helped with the search.

After using boat sonar to scan the lake, a body was found under the water, deputies said.

Divers eventually recovered the body of 43-year-old Andrew Williams of Kansas City at about 2:30 p.m.

“The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all First Responders and Mr. Bill Hickert for their work in the recovery of Mr. Williams. And to keep Mr. Williams’ family in their thoughts and prayers during this trying time,” Russell County Sheriff Andrew Van Der Wege said.

At this time, no further information about the moments leading up to Williams’ death has been released.
