KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Clay County Sheriff’s Office has officially implemented an initiative that allows deputies to hold people with minor equipment violations accountable while promoting healthier relationships with law enforcement.
“No Ticket, Let’s Fix It” is a campaign created by the sheriff’s office that will exchange equipment violation tickets for a $10 gift card to a local auto parts store.
Deputies said the gift cards will be given to those with minor violations, like a broken headlamp or turn signal light. Their hope is that the gift cards will be used to help pay for replacement parts.
“Despite what some may think, we don’t enjoy giving out tickets,” Community Interaction Sergeant Megan Blackburn said in a statement. “But it is a part of the job to keep people safe and hold them accountable to the law. This is a way we can inform our citizens of a minor infraction and help give them a way to fix it.”
The sheriff’s office said “No Ticket, Let’s Fix It” was made possible by “generous Clay County auto parts stores” that donated gift cards for the cause. The auto parts stores include O’Reilly locations in Excelsior Springs, Gladstone, Kearney, Liberty and Smithville, as well as Auto Zone in Liberty.
According to deputies, the program will end once all the gift cards have been distributed.
