According to the BCSO, deputies headed to a home on Lacy Court in Oroville for reports of a domestic argument that involved a firearm. When crews arrived at the residence, the victim identified the suspect as Johnathan Russo, 37, of Oroville.

Deputies then started to investigate the area and found evidence that gave them cause to believe Russon assaulted the victim and was also in possession of a firearm, BCSO said. Russo had left the home before deputies arrived.

BCSO stated that the deputies finished their investigation and obtained an arrest warrant for Russo.

The next day, deputies with the BCSO Special Enforcement Unit and the Butte Interagency Narcotics Task Force found Russo in Chico and took him into custody, according to BCSO. When deputies were arresting him, they found cocaine in Russo’s possession. Detectives responded to Russo’s residence and found the firearm.

BCSO said that Russo was booked into the Butte County Jail for felony assault with a deadly weapon, felony brandishing a firearm, domestic battery, and possession of a controlled substance.
