RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — The National Weather Service office in Raleigh has issued an extreme heat warning starting mid-morning Tuesday after earlier issuing an extreme heat watch for the time period.
Officials said “dangerously hot conditions” with heat index values up to 112 degrees are expected during the warning from 10 a.m. Tuesday until 8 p.m., Wednesday.
The extreme heat warning is for all of central North Carolina, except for Moore and Hoke counties.
A heat advisory will expire at 10 a.m. Tuesday, when the warning begins, the National Weather Service said.
“Heat-related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses,” the weather service said in the warning.

Moore and Hoke counties are under a heat advisory until Wednesday at 8 p.m., during which heat index values up to 109 degrees are forecast, the weather service said.
The extreme heat warning also stretches eastward in North Carolina, including all counties east of Raleigh to the coast.
Also included in the warning are Bladen, Columbus, Inland Brunswick, Inland New Hanover Inland Pender, and Robeson counties.
