Firefighter injured in Fairfax County apartment fire, officials say

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — One firefighter was hurt while responding to an apartment fire in Fairfax County early Sunday morning, according to officials.

In a post on the X platform just after 4:30 a.m., the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department said crews were on the scene of a fire at a garden-style apartment in the 2500 block of Farmcrest Drive, in the Frying Pan neighborhood.

When they had arrived, they found flames coming from the second and third floors of the building.

Firefighters worked to extinguish the fire, bringing it under control within a short time. Photos shared by the fire department on social media show how the flames tore through parts of the building’s roof, leaving gaping holes.

The firefighter injured in the fire was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, officials noted. No one else was hurt.
