Human remains found in Alton identified as 50-year-old woman

ALTON, Ill. – Madison County Coroners have matched a name to the human remains that were discovered in a wooded area in Alton, Illinois, on July 13, 2025.

Alton Police were alerted to reports of a body discovered near 7th and Market Street, and upon their arrival at the scene, they discovered 50-year-old Angela M. Coyle.

Investigators would declare Coyle deceased shortly around 2:40 p.m., and the scene was closed off until the following day, July 14. During that time, forensic experts would gather anything they could to identify the remains.

Officials believe that, at the time of her death, Coyle was unhoused.

What led to her passing remains under investigation, officials say.

Various departments, including Alton Police, the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit and the St. Louis County Medical Examiner’s Forensic Anthropologist, are involved in the case. No further information about the incident has been shared by officials.

Funeral arrangements for Coyle are currently pending.
