BROOKLYN, N.Y. (ABC4 Sports) – The Utah Jazz held on to the fifth overall pick in the NBA Draft Wednesday night, and selected Rutgers forward Ace Bailey.
The 6-foot-10 wing averaged 17.6 points and 7.2 rebounds per game for the Scarlet Knights last season. Bailey is extremely athletic with a seven foot wing span.
Bailey, whose full first name is Airious, did not work out for any NBA team, and it was reported earlier on Wednesday that he did not want to be drafted by either Utah or Charlotte.
But the Jazz simply could not overlook his talent, as Bailey was rated as high as the third best player in the draft.
Bailey shot 46 percent from the field last year, and was a 34.6 percent three-point shooter.
Bailey, who is from Chattanooga, Tennessee, is the second Rutgers player drafted in the top-five along with guard Dylan Harper, who went with the second overall pick to San Antonio.
