The Dallas Mavericks select Duke Sensation Cooper Flagg with 1st overall pick

DALLAS (KDAF) – The Dallas Mavericks selected Duke Forward Cooper Flagg with the 1st overall pick of the 2025 NBA Draft.

The Mavericks landed the number one overall pick despite having just a 1.8 percent chance to earn the selection during the 2025 NBA Draft Lottery.

Flagg joins a star-studded roster that already features Kyrie Irving, Anthony Davis and Daniel Gafford, who signed a 3-year, $60 million extension earlier this week. In addition to key pieces like P.J. Washington and Derek Lively II, many believe the Mavericks could be NBA title contenders next season.

Mavericks General Manager Nico Harrison garnered significant, primarily negative, attention following the decision to trade global superstar Luka Doncic to the Lakers in exchange for Davis, Max Christie and a 2029 first-round pick. Today, he celebrated the Mavericks’ selection alongside members of his staff at Mavericks HQ.

The San Antonio Spurs selected Rutgers Guard Dylan Harper with the 2nd overall pick while the Philadelphia 76ers selected Baylor Guard VJ Edgecombe with the 3rd overall pick.

The 2025-2026 NBA season will tip off on October 21, 2025.
