ST. LOUIS – One juvenile was arrested after an 8-year-old boy was shot Monday evening in St. Louis, police say.
A 12-year-old boy was taken into custody in connection with the shooting. The juvenile was not identified by name.
Investigators say an eight-year-old boy was shot in the face Monday and hospitalized in stable condition.
The shooting happened around 7:30 p.m. in the 3400 block of Cherokee Street. When police arrived to the scene, they found the eight-year-old boy with apparent gunshot injuries and rushed him to the hospital.
According to a St. Louis police crime summary report, based on preliminary findings, the eight-year-old boy was in a home with several other children and teens when he was shot. It was believed some individuals were playing with a gun when it went off.
Police say a 12-year-old boy reportedly left the home with a handgun after the shooting, and the gun was located in the backyard of the home.
The 12-year-old was taken into custody in connection with the shooting. A parent at the home advised officers she was upstairs in the home when the eight-year-old was shot.
The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department says an investigation into how the children acquired the gun and the full timeline of the shooting remains ongoing.
