SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A juvenile suspect is in custody following a shooting near 300 South and 100 West in Salt Lake City on Monday night.
Brent Weisberg with the Salt Lake City Police Department confirmed with ABC4.com that officers responded to reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers could not find any patients or suspects but did find “evidence of gunfire.”
Based on preliminary investigation, police believe a group of teenagers got into a fight just before 11:30 p.m. At some point during the fight, at least one individual pulled out a gun and began shooting.
“We are working to determine whether there was more than one person with a firearm,” Weisberg said in a media statement. “There have not been any reports of any injuries.”
As of Tuesday morning, officers have reportedly located several people who were potentially involved in the alleged shooting. One female juvenile has been booked into the juvenile detention center for being a minor in possession of a firearm.
An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
This is a developing story. ABC4 will update this post as new information becomes available.
