SALT LAKE CITY, (ABC4) — A security guard at a Salt Lake City industrial park was taken into custody, accused of shooting a man he claimed had been messing with him for two years.
Police responded to the shooting near 600 South Iron Rose Place shortly before midnight on Monday, July 7. Upon arrival, officers found a victim with gunshot wounds and the suspect, identified as Amos Gerson Lucero, 66, allegedly covered in blood.
According to court documents, Lucero had a “pistol-style ankle holster” and spent firearm cases were nearby.
The victim, who has not been identified, was taken to a local area hospital to be treated. Before leaving the scene, the victim reportedly told officers, “The guy working security shot me.”
Lucero was taken into custody but reportedly denied speaking to police without an attorney. Despite his request for an attorney, Lucero allegedly continued to make statements, saying the victim had been messing with him for two years, claiming the victim had gone to his home.
Lucero allegedly said he considered the victim to be a threat.
He was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on one count of first-degree felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury.
Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
