PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – The Portland Trail Blazers are saying goodbye to Deandre Ayton, the former No. 1 overall pick from just seven years ago
The team says it was a contract buyout, as the 26-year-old was owed $35 million for the final year of his deal.
In his two seasons with the Blazers, Ayton played in 95 of a possible 164 games.
Ayton’s agent says he now wants to play for a winning team. The Lakers, Warriors, Pacers and Celtics are the early front runners to land him next.
Additionally, the Blazers have reportedly not extended a qualifying offer to forward Jabari Walker. He has already removed the Blazers from his Instagram bio.
Free-agency negotiations open up Monday for Walker.
