(FOX40.COM) — The City of Sacramento is offering up to $250,000 in rebates to attract movie and TV production to the city.
The Measure U-funded program is available to productions with budgets of at least $1 million that would film for at least five days or 20 percent of their total production schedule in the city.
Fees paid to the city, such as those for police and permitting costs, are eligible for 100 percent reimbursement. Certain other local expenses, such as hotel stays, catering and local hires, are eligible for a 25 percent rebate.
“This isn’t just about attracting big-name productions,” Sacramento Film Commissioner Jennifer West said. “It’s about building a pipeline of opportunity for local crew, vendors and businesses. While the rebate is designed to draw outside investment, it’s structured to ensure real local benefit—only Sacramento-based labor is eligible for reimbursement.”
The city said its Film + Media Office has issued 22 permits so far in 2025, which it estimates had a direct economic impact of over $1.09 million.
Commercials, student films, music videos, game shows, news programs and several other categories are not eligible for the program.
