Severe storms risk strong winds and flash flooding Tuesday across the Charlotte area

CHARLOTTE (PINPOINT WEATHER) — We are tracking a cold front, bringing increasing clouds through the day and eventually scattered storms Tuesday afternoon and evening.

Highs will be around 90 on Tuesday, even with the clouds.

Storms will come in two rounds. An initial broken line of storms during the mid to late afternoon hours, and then another round of storms late evening into the early overnight hours.

Strong to severe storms are possible, with isolated gusty winds and localized flash flooding as the main threats. Doubt we will see much hail on Tuesday with the warmer temps and lack of drier air in the mid-levels, but won’t completely rule it out.

We’re more concerned about isolated instances of flash flooding than anything else on Tuesday, especially with the slow-moving storms. The cold front will slowly move through on Wednesday, keeping at least a low chance for a shower or storm through the day.

Temps will likely cool down into the 80s for the first time in 13 days. Back into the 90s for Thursday and through Independence Day, with limited storm chances and less humidity.
