(WSPA) – Severe storms were moving through western North Carolina and the Upstate Wednesday afternoon.
Storms could contain strong gusty winds and large hail.
The National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the Upstate, western North Carolina and northeast Georgia.
The thunderstorm watch is in effect through midnight, while a heat advisory is in effect for the region until 8 p.m.

As of 5:30 p.m., a line of thunderstorms moving through parts of western North Carolina and into South Carolina.
Severe Thunderstorm Warnings were issued along the line of storms, including much of the northern Upstate from Pickens County through Cherokee County.
7NEWS Chief Meteorologist Malachi Rodgers said a watch means that conditions are favorable for severe storms to develop into the afternoon and evening hours.
The area will most likely experience strong and gusty winds, hail, lightning and possible isolated flooding.
