Tropical Storm Barry forms in the Gulf: NHC

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Tropical Storm Barry has formed off the eastern coast of Mexico, the National Hurricane Center said.

As of 10 a.m. on Sunday, the storm had maximum sustained winds of 40 mph and was moving northwest at around 6 mph.

The NHC said the storm will produce heavy rainfall across northeastern Mexico, with the possibility of life-threatening flooding and mudslides.

Tropical storm conditions are expected for portions of eastern Mexico through the rest of the day and overnight, with some areas potentially seeing around five inches of rainfall.
