A stolen vehicle suspect is in custody after a pursuit ended in multiple crashes Wednesday night in Pasadena, resulting in the hospitalization of three people — including a Los Angeles Police Department officer.
The pursuit began around 6:45 p.m., according to the LAPD, when officers responded to a report from the owner of a stolen black Mercedes G-Wagon in the area of Century Boulevard and Figueroa Streets. When police found the suspect driver and attempted a traffic stop, the suspect failed to yield, thus initiating a chase.
Officers chased after the suspect along the northbound lanes of the 110 Freeway before eventually exiting onto surface streets, heading into Pasadena.
Then, at around 7:20 p.m., footage from the stringer service RMG News captured the moment an LAPD cruiser attempted to perform a PIT maneuver on the pursuit suspect’s SUV, but instead missed and crashed into an uninvolved business building in the area of 1446 E Walnut St. The suspect vehicle continued to flee.
RMG News spoke with a woman named Marilyn Salvador, who said she owns the business that was struck — Alberto’s Polishing and Refinishing. “My cousin got the Ring notification about the crash, and I just drove down here,” said Salvador. “I don’t know anything, no one’s come up to talk to me about it.” The extent of the damage was not immediately clear.
Shortly after this crash, Sky5 was overhead when the G-Wagon, attempting to speed through the intersection of Foothill and Sierra Madre boulevards, was struck hard in the side by another motorist crossing through.
Video shows the G-Wagon as it was launched into the air and rolled over several times before landing out of the camera frame. Police said the suspect was taken into custody just moments later.
Three people, including one police officer, were taken to the hospital. Their conditions were not immediately available.
