DENVER (KDVR) — A 30-year-old Weld County jail deputy was arrested on Tuesday on two felony counts of sexual conduct in a correctional facility by an employee.
According to the Weld County Sheriff’s Office, Jacob Golden, 30, allegedly had sexual intercourse with a 27-year-old female inmate at the Weld County Jail between July 12 and 14 while Golden was on duty.
The sheriff’s office, upon learning of Golden’s conduct, launched an investigation and the deputy was arrested before his next scheduled shift. Detectives learned of the allegations on July 15, when another inmate reported the incident to another detention deputy.
The sheriff’s office said that Golden is certified by the Peace Officer Standards and Training Board, also known as POST, and has worked in the jail for about four years. He was placed on unpaid administrative leave pending the outcome of the criminal investigation, followed by an internal investigation, according to the sheriff’s office.
“People expect to be able to trust law enforcement,” the sheriff’s office said in a release. “The actions of Golden are unacceptable and disturbing to the conscience. The Sheriff’s Office took swift action to ensure that this incident is properly investigated.”
Golden was given a $20,000 cash or surety bond on Tuesday afternoon and was released on bond on Wednesday evening, according to jail records.
The case remains under investigation.
