A former Greens candidate may lose vision in her right eye after sustaining facial injuries during an arrest at a pro-Palestinian protest in Sydney’s south-west.
Police have now charged Hannah Thomas with hindering or resisting a police officer and refusing to comply with a direction to disperse.
In a video message released from her hospital bed, Ms Thomas accused NSW Premier Chris Minns and NSW Police Minister Yasmin Catley of introducing ‘draconian anti-protest laws’.
NSW Police attempted to disperse the group, claiming the action was unauthorised.
Four other protesters arrested were charged and are due to appear at Bankstown Local Court on July 15.
