Ukrainian MiG Strikes Russian Drone Base with Precision French Bomb in Zaporizhia (Video)

(Zaporizhia) – A Ukrainian Air Force MiG-29 has struck a suspected Russian drone command post in the village of Inzhenerne, Zaporizhia region, using a French-made precision-guided bomb. The strike, which took place recently, was reported by the Telegram channel Sonyashnyk and confirmed by open source intelligence group WarArchive.

Ukrainian reconnaissance identified the enemy facility using a surveillance drone. Once the coordinates were verified, the MiG-29 launched an AASM 250 HAMMER bomb, a French-designed weapon known for its high accuracy and extended range. The targeted building was reportedly used by Russian drone operators and may have suffered heavy structural damage following the impact.

The AASM, or Armement Air Sol Modulaire, is a guidance kit developed by French company Safran. It converts standard gravity bombs into precision air-to-ground munitions by adding advanced guidance systems and a rocket booster. These features allow Ukrainian aircraft to hit targets with pinpoint accuracy from distances of up to 70 kilometres at high altitude.

France has delivered hundreds of AASM kits to Ukraine since 2023. The kits were quickly adapted for use on Soviet-era aircraft, including the Su-25 and MiG-29, within just four months. In 2024, production of AASM bombs increased by 40 percent, reaching 830 units. France has also expressed readiness to double output if needed to support Ukraine’s war effort.

A similar strike using an AASM was reported on 27 May, when Ukrainian forces targeted a building belonging to Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) in the village of Glotovo in Russia’s Belgorod region. Reconnaissance footage appeared to show the bomb hitting the roof of the structure, likely destroying multiple floors.
