(Moscow) – Kremlin loyalists once again made it abundantly clear that Russia has no interest in pursuing peace with Ukraine or the West in a recent broadcast on the Russian state television show The Evening with Vladimir Solovyov. Host Vladimir Solovyov, one of the Kremlin’s most outspoken propagandists, delivered an openly aggressive diatribe alongside sociologist Evgeny Kopatko, during which both men endorsed militarisation, conquest, and the destruction of what they called “Nazi regimes” – referring to Ukraine’s democratic government and its Western allies.
The programme’s rhetoric starkly contradicted any narrative of negotiation or compromise. Solovyov unapologetically stated, “We do not need peace. We need victory,” making it clear that Russia’s real objective is not security or diplomacy, but dominance. He called for the elimination of Ukraine’s political leadership and any elites who support it. He also lamented that past Soviet leaders did not act more forcefully to prevent the collapse of the Soviet Union, suggesting that military bases should never have been withdrawn from Finland or Eastern Europe.
Kopatko, echoing Solovyov’s sentiments, argued that Europe must be struck before it becomes more militarised, revealing a disturbingly preemptive attitude towards war. The conversation made reference to NATO’s latest moves, suggesting that the alliance’s support for Ukraine is intensifying. Solovyov ridiculed attempts by Ukraine to receive additional military aid, mocking Western hesitation to provide advanced missiles such as Germany’s Taurus.
The show repeatedly implied that Russia’s so-called “national interests” justify further escalation of the war, even if it leads to the complete destruction of Ukraine’s current political framework. Solovyov insisted Russia must secure future generations by removing political systems that oppose it.
Throughout the broadcast, Russia was framed as the victim of unjust Western actions, while Europe and the United States were depicted as aggressors. However, this narrative masks the clear intent voiced by the host and guest: not defence, but conquest.
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin’s grip on the media remains firm, and this chilling broadcast reveals a mindset among Moscow’s elites that leaves no room for peace, diplomacy or even coexistence. Instead, the Kremlin’s propagandists are preparing the Russian public for a drawn-out and brutal conflict.
