The Israeli military released a video that it said showed a strike on a bunker that belonged to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei on Friday, days after his death. The attack by the Israeli Air Force involved 100 bombs dropped from 50 IAF fighter jets and targeted a site, which IDF says was located under Iran’s “leadership complex” in Tehran, and spread across multiple streets and including “many entry points and rooms for gatherings of senior members of the Iranian terror regime.” According to the Israeli military statement, the bunker was located "beneath the regime’s leadership compound in the center of Tehran" and spanned "multiple streets" in the city centre. The statement described it as "one of the Iranian leadership’s most important military command centers." Although Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in the air strike on February 28, Israeli officials stated that the complex continued functioning as an operational center for senior figures within the Iranian government and military leadership. According to Israeli authorities, the attack was enabled by years of intelligence work carried out by elite military intelligence units. The Israel Defense Forces reported that Unit 8200, Israel’s signals intelligence branch, together with Unit 9900, which focuses on geospatial and visual intelligence, spent years mapping the compound and the underground structures beneath it. This intelligence preparation allowed Israeli forces to carry out what officials described as a precise strike targeting the underground bunker. Khamenei was killed before he could use the bunker, the statement said. The bombing represents the most recent attack in a series of strikes targeting the heavily protected leadership complex amid the escalating conflict involving Israel, the United States, and Iran.
