An effective strike on the Kerch Bridge requires a powerful weapon. Aviation market expert Bohdan Dolintse stated this on Radio NV , answering a question about the destruction of Russian boats guarding the Kerch Bridge and whether it’s reasonable to assume that something could strike the bridge itself on May 9. Dolintse noted that for something to "fly" across the bridge on May 9, something must have been manufactured and prepared for a corresponding strike. At the same time, he said, Ukraine is working on a whole range of powerful long-range weapons. "To truly effectively destroy such a target, either a massive strike with powerful weapons or a sufficiently powerful weapon would be necessary. Even temporarily disabling this infrastructure would have required a large quantity of explosives in previous attacks on this facility," he said. Moreover, the expert emphasized that, in addition to the bridge as a specific symbol, there are a large number of other equally interesting and important goals.
"In particular, we’re talking about aviation, which Russia is currently actively concealing at civilian airfields and using civilian airfield infrastructure. Reducing the number of Russian aircraft and storage, maintenance, and repair bases is equally important," Dolintse said. He added that this reduces the enemy’s ability to strike Ukrainian territory with guided aircraft and ballistic and aeroballistic missile carriers. Dolintse also noted that the enemy is counting on the fact that placing military equipment among civilian vehicles will make it more difficult to detect. Furthermore, in the event of an attack, civilian aircraft and civilian infrastructure can serve as a form of cover. As reported, on the night of April 30, the Ukrainian Navy attacked a Russian convoy of ships and boats in the Kerch Strait. As a result, the Federal Security Service patrol boat "Sobol" and the counter-sabotage boat "Grachonok" were hit. The enemy suffered irreparable and medical losses. The Navy said the vessels are key units of the Coast Guard of the Border Service of FSB and the Russian Navy, used to guard the Kerch Bridge and counter sabotage operations. “This is another example of the effective work of the Ukrainian Navy and the consistent reduction of the enemy’s capabilities in the Black Sea,” the statement said. In early April, the Ukrainian military intelligence agency reported that its special forces had destroyed the Slavyanin – Russia’s last railway ferry in the Kerch Strait. According to HUR, the vessel was part of Russia’s Kerch ferry crossing, used to supply troops in occupied Crimea, including transporting fuel, weapons, ammunition, and military equipment. The strike was carried out in the early hours of April 6, when HUR’s Active Operations Department disabled the ferry using drones. This was not the first time the vessel had been targeted. It was damaged in a previous operation in March but remained afloat.
