Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s compound has been destroyed in a recent Israeli air strike on the country. A new satellite image shows Khamenei’s destroyed compound in Tehran as well as dark plumes of smoke over the facility. The image also shows collapsed buildings at the complex, which serves as 87-year-old Khamenei’s residence. Khamenei was among a number of Iranian officials targeted in the Israeli strike. His whereabouts remain unknown. It’s unknown how many Iranian officials have been killed in US and Israeli airstrikes launched on Saturday morning. Earlier, Israeli sources stated that the strikes on Iran targeted Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and other senior Iranian figures, including armed forces Chief of Staff Sayyid Abdolrahim Mousavi, President Masoud Pezeshkian, among others. Among other targets are the secretary of Iran’s newly established Defence Council, Ali Shamkhani, and the secretary of Iran’s National Security Council, Ali Larijani. This comes hours after the US and Israel launched joint air strikes across Iran. Tehran launched retaliatory attacks on US military bases across the Middle East and pledged a “crushing response”. Iranian airstrikes targeted US military bases in Bahrain and Abu Dhabi where one person was killed. The UAE said in the statement that it had intercepted “a number” of ballistic missiles fired by Iran, describing the attack as “a dangerous escalation and a cowardly act.” Explosions were also heard in Qatar.
