Twenty passengers, including crew members, were killed as Turkish C-130 aircraft crashed on Georgia-Azerbaijan border on Tuesday, local media reported. The aircraft was en route from Azerbaijan and crashed about 5 kilometers from Georgia’s state border with Azerbaijan. The Georgian Interior Ministry said the aircraft crashed in Georgia’s Sighnaghi municipality, adding that an investigation has been launched. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan extended condolenses to the families of “martyrs” killed in the crash. "Today, we learned with deep sorrow that our C130 military aircraft, en route from Azerbaijan to our country, crashed on the Georgia-Azerbaijan border. Our efforts to recover the wreckage continue in coordination with the relevant authorities,” Erdogan said while speaking at a Congress Center. Turkey’s state-run Anadolu Agency quoted the Georgian aviation authority as saying that contact with the plane was lost a few minutes after it had entered Georgia’s airspace. The plane had not issued a distress call, it said.
