Ukrainian long-range strikes on railway junctions and substations in Russia are disrupting Russian plans for a new offensive, which the enemy is preparing for against the backdrop of a meeting between Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump scheduled for August 15, military expert Mikhail Zhirokhov said on Radio NV .
In particular, he was asked whether there would be any effect from Ukrainian strikes on Russian railways.
"It is absolutely certain that this most effectively disrupts the Russians’ preparations for a future offensive, which they are obviously planning, if not for Trump’s meeting, then certainly in the coming days," Zhirokhov said.
According to him, Ukrainian DeepStrike drones operate so effectively in certain areas of Russian territory because they managed to penetrate the enemy air defense system there.
"Drones come from one direction and strike specific traction substations, specific railway junctions. This is more effective. In order to put this railway structure back into operation, it will definitely take not days, but weeks. And this is reflected not only in military logistics, but also in civilian ones," Zhirokhov noted.
As reported, the Russian army is the first and main consumer of Russian railway services . In particular, the dispatch of personnel, weapons, equipment, equipment, food, and movement occurs via the railway. "There is a logistics hub there for the transfer of resources, fuel, ammunition and other cargo to the front in the Donetsk region, as well as to the south in the temporarily occupied Crimea and the Zaporizhia region," said head of the Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council Andriy Kovalenko. "We are hitting stations that are close to the border line because a drone with a large amount of explosives can fly there. We must destroy Russian logistics even if the suspension of traffic is for several hours. Because this breaks the logistics schemes that Russia has built," Getman emphasized.
At the same time, he said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have difficulties with the operation of long-range drones. "We are proud that they can fly more than a thousand kilometers, but the further the drone flies, the more fuel it must have, but then it will carry less explosives," the expert explained.
