China Develops New Transport Aircraft More Powerful Than Ukrainian An-124 Ruslan

China is developing a next-generation strategic transport aircraft that differs significantly from existing models such as the Y-20.

According to Defense Blog, the concept envisions carrying up to 120 tons of cargo with a maximum takeoff weight of around 470 tons. The aircraft would have a range of 6,500 km at full load without refueling.

The design features an integrated fuselage and wing, a V-shaped tail, engines mounted on the wings, and a modified tail scheme for improved stability. Cruising speed is expected to be around 1,000 km/h.

The projected engine thrust is 370 kN, though studies indicate that engines with 350-369 kN could offer better fuel efficiency without compromising performance.

In terms of cruising speed and aerodynamic efficiency, the aircraft is reported to surpass the American C-5A and the Ukrainian An-124 Ruslan.

The aircraft is designed to operate from dirt runways of 2,600 m at full load and from altitudes of 4,000 m with a reduced payload, enabling operations in regions such as Tibet and Central Asia.

The cargo hold is 5 m high, over 21 m long, and exceeds 170 m² in area, capable of transporting up to 117 vehicles or more than 300 personnel. The design allows for landings with up to 3g overload.
