As reported defense forces of Ukraine struck the Russian company Atlant Aero, which is involved in the production of heavy Orion drones. According to military expert Yuriy Fedorov, this plant had already been attacked by Ukraine in January and March of this year, but this time it was hit not by drones, but by Neptune missiles. "This means that a strike on this plant is considered a very important task in Kyiv, a very important target. Otherwise, they wouldn’t be wasting the scarce and rather expensive Neptune missiles… This plant assembles two types of drones. One is the Molniya reconnaissance and attack drone… It’s made from very cheap materials—plywood, plastic, foam, etc." According to him, quite a lot of these drones are being produced; they are widely used for tactical purposes, that is, in the "death zone" itself, which extends 10-20 kilometers from the conventional line of combat engagement. But much more interesting, as Fedorov emphasizes, is the fact that this plant also produces heavy-duty Orion drones. They carry a so-called payload, can fly up to 300 km, and remain airborne for approximately 30 hours. It is important that this strike and reconnaissance aircraft is equipped with three reconnaissance and surveillance systems, the analyst added. As Fedorov notes, Russia doesn’t have many such drones—just over 40 are produced annually. However, according to some sources tracking losses in Russia and Ukraine, Russia has already lost 11 of these drones. "This means the strike could seriously weaken the arsenal of these devices, which play a significant role in Russian military planning and combat operations. As for the Russian authorities’ response, they, as always, reported that ‘something’ fell near the plant. They don’t know what exactly fell, and they also don’t know what happened there…" the analyst emphasized. Earlier, Ukrainian Navy spokesman Dmitry Pletenchuk commented on the defeat of the Russian company " Atlant Aero " in Taganrog, which produces the Molniya and Orion drones. According to him, the Orion is an operational-technical drone, similar to the Bayraktar for Ukraine. It’s a fairly large unit in terms of scale and capabilities, capable of not only reconnaissance but also carrying weapons. "Therefore, in any case, a reduction in landing and logistics capabilities—the Russians used large landing ships for naval logistics—is always a plus for us," said a Navy representative. He also commented on the defeat of the Russian company Atlant Aero, which produces Molniya drones. The plant is also involved in the production of Orion UAVs. "The Molniya is a device that gets to everyone… It’s a wing made of sticks and paper. Therefore, the destruction of the production facility that assembles these drones is good news for the front lines, first and foremost. As for the Orion, that’s already at the operational and technical level. To put it simply, it’s the same as the Bayraktar for us. It’s a fairly large unit in terms of scope and capabilities. It not only conducts reconnaissance but also carries weapons," Pletenchuk said.
