Explosions Reported in Kaspiysk Near Torpedo and Naval Engine Manufacturer

On the morning of December 1, the residents of Kaspiysk in Dagestan reported explosions near the Dagdizel military plant.

ASTRA analysts, after reviewing eyewitness footage, noted that windows in a nearby apartment building were damaged.

The head of Dagestan, Sergey Melikov, said that the drone attack had been ‘successfully repelled.’

The Dagdizel military plant (Plant No. 182) is one of the largest industrial enterprises in Dagestan, founded in 1932. It specializes in the production of underwater weaponry, diesel engines, pumps, and other equipment for the Russian Navy. During the Soviet era, the plant was one of the USSR’s leading torpedo-manufacturing facilities.

Today, the Dagdizel military plant is part of the Marine Underwater Weapons – Gidropribor holding and remains a key producer of torpedoes and other equipment for the Russian Navy.

In the summer of 2018, it was reported that the Dagdizel military plant had signed a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defence to manufacture 73 UET-1 torpedoes worth $72 million.

In April 2025, media reported the collapse of the roof of the plant’s eighth workshop. The testing facility had been under construction since 1934 and was completed in 1939. The workshop was used for testing naval weapons, including steam-gas torpedoes.
