Our stories today:
Heavy snow and strong winds have caused major traffic disruptions. There are also growing concerns about flooding along the lower parts of the Vistula River.
Poland’s prime minister says a breakthrough in Ukraine-Russia peace talks could come within weeks, adding that the United States may be ready to send peacekeeping forces once a deal is reached. Asked about those comments, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that only Washington can make such a commitment – though he said it would, of course, be a very welcome development.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy also announced on X last night that an agreement has been reached with countries from the Coalition of the Willing to hold new talks. First, National security advisers will meet in Ukraine in just a few days, on January 3. The meeting will be followed by another round of talks, this time among leaders, and hosted by Emmanuel Macron in France.
