Despite attempts to suppress it, the protest movement in Iran persists, and Khamenei’s regime faces growing resistance.

Media reports indicate new signs of division within the security forces amid ongoing mass protests in Iran. Intelli News writes about this. According to Iranian sources, in Ilan province, some police officers, who allegedly refused to obey orders from their superiors, laid down their arms and openly joined the protesters.

It is also reported that units of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps have allegedly abandoned their positions.

Protesters are demanding the overthrow of the ayatollahs and the restoration of the Pahlavi dynasty, chanting slogans like: "Death to the dictator," "Death to Khamenei," and "The last battle—the Pahlavis will return!" Tehran remains the main center of protest activity.

Street protests are nothing new in Iran, but the current unrest is accompanied by several new factors, making the situation very serious. Demonstrators have continued mass protests across the country for the 11th day in a row and have appealed directly to Donald Trump for help. In Tehran, protesters renamed a street in Trump’s honor.

The US then captured Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro, and the next day, Sunday, Trump again threatened the Iranian authorities.

That a sitting US president is making such explicit threats, especially while protests are still ongoing, is quite unusual and could embolden demonstrators and fuel the spread of protests across the country.

Students, small business owners, and other segments of the population took to the streets across the country. Soon, slogans directed against Iran’s supreme leader began to be heard again at the demonstrations.

The last time unrest of comparable scale occurred in Iran was almost four years ago, following the death of Mahsa Amini, a woman detained by the morality police. Then, Iran was engulfed in the largest wave of protests since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Those protests shook the foundations of the Islamic Republic, but were ultimately suppressed by force.

The current protests immediately spread from Tehran to other cities and have been ongoing for several days, but they have not yet reached the scale and intensity of the 2022 demonstrations.

For more than 30 years, Tehran carefully built a network of allied groups in the region, mechanisms to circumvent sanctions, and developed a nuclear program—and all of this was destroyed or thoroughly undermined in a relatively short time.

At the same time, as long as Trump remains in the White House and Benjamin Netanyahu remains in power in Israel, there are no clear diplomatic or strategic paths or ways for Iran to emerge from this crisis without paying a very high price.
