New details have emerged about assassination attempt on Iran’s newly-elected Supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei. According to the Telegraph, Mojtaba Khamenei narrowly avoided death during a strike on his bunker because he had stepped out moments before the attack. The publication cited an audio recording of remarks by Mazaher Hosseinn, who heads the office of Ali Khamenei, which reveals that Mojtaba had briefly gone into the garden just before the strike. That brief absence reportedly saved him, as the compound was struck by Israeli Blue Sparrow ballistic missiles. The explosion killed six members of his family, including his father – Iran’s former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, his mother, his wife, and his son. Sources cited in the report claim he had stepped outside “to attend to something” only seconds before the missiles hit his residence. Hosseini allegedly indicated that the operation was intended to eliminate the entire Khamenei family. In addition to the bunker, other related properties were reportedly targeted, including Mojtaba’s home, his son-in-law’s residence, and his brother’s house. Within Iran, his survival is being interpreted by some as an act of divine intervention. Meanwhile, on March 13, the United States announced a $10 million reward for information concerning Mojtaba Khamenei and senior figures of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. At the same time, U.S. President Donald Trump publicly questioned whether Khamenei is still alive, noting his absence from public appearances. This uncertainty has fuelled speculation in the media, with unverified claims suggesting he may have travelled to Moscow for medical treatment following injuries allegedly sustained in strikes attributed to the United States and Israel. Some reports even claim he could be staying at a Kremlin residence, though these assertions remain unconfirmed. Mojtaba Khamenei was appointed Iran’s Supreme Leader after the killing of 87-year-old Ayatollah Ali Khamenei whose compound near capital Tehran was struck on February 28, the first day that the US and Isarel jointly launched their Epic Fury operation. In the latest attack on Iranian officials, Isarel killed head of Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani on March 17. Over a dozen senior officials have been officially identified as killed in these attacks. Among other senior officials killed in the US-Israeli strikes are Mohammad Pakpour, IRGC ground forces chief, Mohammad Shirazi – head of Supreme Leader’s military office, Saleh Asadi – intelligence head at Khatam-al Anbiya Headquarters, Bahram Hosseini Motlagh – senior IRGC operations official.
