Israel’s military destroyed residential buildings in Gaza Strip late Friday, after ordering residents to leave. According to Shifa hospital, which received the casualties., four people, including a child, were injured in the latest strikes. Based on the accounts of local witnesses, five houses were destroyed in Gaza City’s seaside Shanti refugee camp. Four more houses were badly damaged in that area. “They bombed an entire block while we were in a ceasefire,” Yasser al-Far, whose house was destroyed in the strike, told the Associated Press. "And my house, which I spent thirty years to build, was destroyed,” he added while moving debris from the rubble of his house. The attack came following a call from the army that ordered residents to leave the area. However, it was not immediately clear what was the target of the strike. Um Mohammad Abu Samaan of Shati Refugee Camp spoke about her frantic escape with her children after they heard the warning campaign. It was the first such order in that part of Gaza City in months. “It was terrifying. We just wanted to save ourselves,” she said while reviewing the damage to her apartment. “Today I’m homeless. There’s nowhere for me to go.” Israel has continued to carry out regular strikes against what it says are militant targets — also killing civilians — since a U.S.-brokered ceasefire halted major military operations in October. That agreement also led to the release of the remaining hostages taken in Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023, attack that sparked the war. Key stipulations of the agreement remain unmet, including the disarmament of Hamas, the deployment of an international stabilization force and Israel’s withdrawal from the half of the territory its troops still control. Israel and Hamas have accused each other of violations.
