Japan Received the First Domestically Produced Patria AMV XP APC

Japan has officially received the first Patria AMV XP armored personnel carrier manufactured in the country.

Defense Blog reports on this with reference to the Japan Ground Self-Defense Forces.

The vehicle was created under license from the Finnish company Patria. Production is carried out by Japan Steel Works, which is to produce a total of 26 units.

The new AMV will replace Type 96 armored personnel carriers, which have long been the backbone of the Japanese Army’s mobility.

The official handover ceremony took place on September 2 at the Japan Steel Works plant in Muroran, Hokkaido Prefecture.

General Masayoshi Arai, Chief of Staff of the Ground Forces, attended the event.

The Patria AMV XP is the most advanced version of the AMV family of armored vehicles developed by the Finnish company Patria.

The vehicle features a spacious interior volume that allows for the simultaneous transportation of infantry and the integration of various systems, including weapons, communications, and specialized equipment.

The AMV XP chassis supports the installation of various combat modules, both light and heavy. Among them are systems equipped with heavy machine guns, automatic guns, anti-tank missiles, and other types of weapons.

The armored vehicle has amphibious capabilities and can move on water at speeds up to 10 km/h.
