For two months, more than 85 important targets have been hit — the potential of the Russian Defense Forces has significantly decreased. The Economist media outlet reported this.
It is noted that the scale of the DeepStrike campaign is growing – strikes on oil refineries and terminals from Chuvashia to Bashkortostan paralyze the fuel system of the Russian Federation.
For two months, 16 out of 38 oil refineries were affected, part of them several times. Export of diesel fell by 30%, in the regions – deficit, kilometer queues, fuel rationing. Cracking installations that convert oil into gasoline, diesel and aviation fuel have been destroyed – and they cannot be replaced under sanctions.
The main weapon of these strikes is Ukrainian FP-1: drones with a range of up to 1,500 km, accurate navigation systems and a cost of only $55,000. Ukraine produces more than 100 such drones every day.
Important drones of the "Lyutiy" type and the newest FP-5 "Flamingo" – cruise missiles with a range of more than 3000 km with a warhead of 1.1 tons were also included in the game. They are fast, heavy, and almost inaccessible for air defense.
Ukraine also destroys oil pumping stations and warehouses, in particular, a powerful facility in Primorsk – the largest Russian port on the Baltic Sea.
Although oil waste is more difficult to completely destroy, its damage disrupts export routes. And the sale of crude oil gives the Kremlin a smaller profit than the sale of finished products.
Unlike the Russian Federation, which is in the cities, Ukraine aims at the economic basis of the war.
While Russian generals disguise themselves as "downed drones", the Kremlin loses income, fuel and control over the domestic market. Russia’s fuel crisis is worsening, and officials are no longer able to conceal the scale of the problem. The Federal Antimonopoly Service has begun issuing warnings to gas station operators across the country over what it calls unjustified price hikes, according to the Russian outlet Izvestia. Fuel prices have risen 40–50% since the start of the year, adding fresh inflationary pressure on the public.
With gas prices surging, many Russian gas station owners risk going out of business. On September 24, Kommersant reported that roughly 50% of stations in occupied Crimea and Sevastopol had stopped selling gasoline amid severe supply disruptions. The Russian Fuel Union warned that gas station profitability has turned negative, with wholesale prices in some regions matching or exceeding retail. Shipment delays of up to two months are draining capital and forcing closures among independent operators, who run about 60% of Russia’s stations, Pravda reported.
