Moldova Equipped With Israeli ATMOS Self-Propelled Artillery Systems

Moldova has received Israeli-made ATMOS self-propelled artillery systems.

A video showing the new systems in action was released by Moldova’s Ministry of Defense.

These are the first self-propelled howitzers to enter service with the Armed Forces of the Republic of Moldova. Previously, the army operated only an unspecified number of Soviet-era towed D-30 and 2A65 Msta-B systems, along with 82 mm and 120 mm mortars.

In 2023, Elbit Systems announced that it had signed a contract to supply ATMOS self-propelled howitzers to an undisclosed country. The agreement is expected to be implemented over eight years.

ATMOS (Autonomous Truck Mounted Howitzer System) is a 155 mm/52-caliber wheeled howitzer mounted on a Tatra chassis with an armored cabin.

It has a reported firing range of 30 kilometers with standard ammunition and up to 41 kilometers with rocket-assisted projectiles. The system’s rate of fire is 4–9 rounds per minute, with an onboard ammunition capacity of 32 shells.
