More than 2,000 firefighters continued to battle wildfires across Portugal on Tuesday as the country sweltered through a heatwave.
According to Associated Press three fires were of great concern on Tuesday morning, with over 2,200 firefighters on the ground, 672 fire engines and 21 aerial resources deployed.
Portugal has been experiencing a heat wave in recent days with temperatures closer to 40 degrees Celsius.
In the northern part of the country, close to the border with Spain, a fire that started on Saturday night has been burning for several days, threatening villages and the natural protected area of Geres.
Separate late Monday, two other fires started in the central region of the country, spreading quickly due to strong winds and high temperatures.
Wildfires are frequent in Portugal particularly in rural areas.
In 2024 at least 5 deaths were linked directly with the fires and dozens of people were injured.
